The Seawood Estates Book Club--All Are Welcome
The Seawood Estates Book Club was begun several years ago at the suggestion of Sheila MacDonald. Our objectives are to read and discuss good books, to share titles of good books and to interact with each other in a book-friendly atmosphere. Our meetings at The Rowell Cottage in Seawood Estates are attended by 8-17 members! The book list is developed during the winter with 2 books recommended for each month's meeting from May through September. We are committed to reading a variety of genres and international authors. September is usually our non-fiction month--a very popular month! Some members decide to read one book or both books--whatever works for individuals works well for the group.
For more information contact Judy Rowell at [email protected] or 902.886.3483 (May-Sept.).

Seawood Book Club Summer 2021 Notes
Here are two lists related to The Seawood Estates Book Club.
1. A list of 18 books that I wanted to place on our final 10-book list but alas there was no room. These were top contenders for our 2021 reads. You may want to read some. . . And who knows, they may end up on the 2022 or 2023 book list! This year I thought it was important to include this list as we carried over some of last summer’s book club list books into this 2021 list and I didn’t have room to add a full 10 “new” reads.
2. Our Seawood Book List for Summer 2021. There are 10 books listed but some are carried over from last summer’s list. As you remember we did discuss a number of books through an internet platform—thanks to the expertise of Bernadette Boardman. If you weren’t able to take part in those discussions, we could set up a 2021 meeting date (on our deck) for a real-time gathering to discuss the following books: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (Spain), Cilka’s Journey by Heather Morris (New Zealand), The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris (NZ), and two nonfiction books Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man’s Fight for Justice by Bill Browder (US) and Being Mortal by Atul Gawande (US).
Because I was combining the 2020 list with the 2021, I didn’t choose an older book this year.
A few reminders: Our book club gathers to discuss books, to share our “good reads”, to meet new friends and to catch up with “old” friends. The book club is open to anyone—come to one meeting or all. Come to find out about an author or book. Each month read one book or both or none. We are flexible. If COVID doesn’t upset our plans to gather, our May date will probably be around May 39th (early June!). The 10:00 am. meetings are held at 185 Driftwood Lane, Seawood Estates, Stanley Bridge.
If you would like to facilitate one of our book conversations, please let me know. You don’t need to have answers, just questions and talking points to get us going! You know how much it helps me to have your assistance on our book club mornings!
All books on the final book list are available in Canada and U.S. If they are not in paperback now, they should be by this summer. If you want me to purchase some for you and bring them up (optimistic!), let me know. One of your greatest resources is your library so definitely check them out sooner rather than later.
Our book club, through the vision and work of Linda Lowther, sponsors a Little Library in the Visitor and Information Center in Cavendish. It is a “Take a Book-Leave a Book” book case. Because so many of us were not on PEI this summer, it has fallen to Linda and anyone else in the area to maintain it. Thank you Linda. I’m sure we’d love to hear if it was used this summer. Additionally, we’ll have a lot books to add once we are all back.
Stay well. Stay busy. Stay in touch. And, of course, continue to read!
Happy Reading,
Judy
